Some of you have had samples of one of our blends – whether you kicked off your day with Daystarter, kept it going with our Motor Oil Standard, and fired up your evening with High Octane Premier – and thanks to you, we’ve incorporated your input into the products available here.
Our story starts a few years ago, when one of our co-founders co-owned a coffee shop in Upstate New York. Learning the business of coffee retail, we took that knowledge – on top of our experience in launching and working with brands during our “day jobs” at a creative strategy firm – as the basis for starting Motor Oil Coffee.
But how did we come up with the name? In our work in creative strategy, our co-founder visited car shows and auctions across the United States – from Pebble Beach to Kissimmee – and no matter if a car sold for $1 million or $1,500, the people setting up these shows would say the same thing:
“This coffee tastes like motor oil and I love it.”
With that simple phrase, our co-founders found that with the love of automobiles and auto-art, a desire for a powerful, yet rich cup of coffee was born.
